Shrewsbury Film offers a varied programme of the best current and classic films from around the world in a friendly, social atmosphere. Screening at The Hive in the heart of the town centre, our main season consists of 16 films showing on alternate Friday evenings between September and April. In response to demand, we also now provide extra screenings and special mini-seasons throughout the year. We are members of Cinema for All, the national support organization for film societies, and of the Film Hub Midlands, which generously supports some of our film shows.
So...if you love films, social evenings & friendly surroundings all at a great price, why not join us for a great night of cinema? The bar is open from 7:30pm with films showing at 8pm.

Pay as you goAt Shrewsbury Film, we pride ourselves in offering not just films but also a social side. For those who want it, we aim to put on an expanding range of social events.
Post-film Drinks
Some of us like to chat about the film afterwards. We meet other like-minded members in the foyer and wander up the road to the Coach and Horses on Swan Hill where its quiet enough for everyone to share their thoughts, or just listen, it's up to you.
Burger Night
We are lucky to team up with EatUp on Milk Street, literally 80m from the Hive when their Gourmet Burger Nights coincide with one of our film screenings. Eat Up will reserve us a table and make sure that we are served in good time for the film at 8. Aside from the excellent food, and some of the best service in town, the benches there are a great way to socialise in a large group, meeting new people, or chatting to people in an environment that's not just film-related.
Some of Our Other Social Activities
We're always looking for new and innovative ideas to complement our films.
For example, during the screening of Sound it Out, a documentary about the last record shop on Teesside, 'RPM', the Shrewsbury vinyl group got to play their own vinyls after the film.
At Christmas, we included live jazz directly after the screening of Midnight in Paris; 'Shropshire Languages Society' brought traditional meals from around the world, before and after Babette's Feast.
One of our favourite events so far, was a tutored wine-tasting by a friend of the Society, Howard Hutchins from Tanners, which we combined with the film Sideways (thanks to the Electric Cinema in Birmingham for the idea). One of our best-value events of the year and suffice to say, we don't remember much more of the night.
The bar is open from 7:30pm with films showing at 8pm at The Hive, Shrewsbury.
Due to current Covid Restrictions we have taken our meetings online. Please visit our website or send us a message for more information.
Annual membership - which gives free admission to 16 Friday night films from September to April - is available at a great price of just £38 or alternatively can pay on the door for only £6 each time.
Wednesday multi-tickets
We sometimes offer multi-tickets for runs of mid-week films. At the moment, we are offering a multi-ticket to cover the seven Wednesday films in our April-July programme for £25. This deal only covers the Wednesdays, not films shown on any other days of the week.
Advance Tickets
You can buy tickets in advance from the Hive, either online, in-person or via telephone. Please note that tickets bought via the Hive may incur a £1.50 debit or credit card charge for each transaction. These additional costs go towards the Hive and not Shrewsbury Film.
As a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, membership fees and ticket sales go towards booking films, venue hire, and promoting and developing Shrewsbury Film.
